it's a stylized "S" but I can't place it.

I've seen it before, so I'm a bit puzzled as to why I do not have an image of it. :headscrat

my grandpa went to auctions in our little town when they closed down the stores. I also have trutest sockets that say made in USA. I'm thinking these were when the Japanese company bought the company that bought trutest. I think they owned true value but it's hard to find info on true value catalogs. It's like they vanished from history.

I ask because my grandpa bought whole sets and they're all gone. And i fount a bunch of old sets from 1900s. All gone.I have no proof besides sets don't really exist especially from 1910s. And I had railroad sets. One from 1890s, one from 1930s and my grandpa had a bunch of railroad tools and boxes. All togetherSets from 1890s to I think these. Had this whole set and I think it was from true value. I bought a Stanley set. Atleast 2 keen kutter sets. All gone to the wind. What's the chances someone else would have them has to be 0.

I think these our newer truetest sockets. Just dropped the name. I say that because I had an entire set just like grandpa's older trutest set. Identical boxes.

Did true value sell Stanley and truetest at the same time.

I'm short thousands of tools and I'm about 95% sure they're all true value, belknap, or simmons. I'm just having hard times finding info on any of it. It's all one tool at a time

@kshillbilly -
I'm assuming you're somewhere in the Midwest, naming off those brands.
keep this link handy at all times
and this one.

"Tru Test" was the private-label brand for True Value Hardware Stores.
Tru-Test / True Value Hardware private label see Oakes & Co., Chicago / some product produced by Indestro /

not to be confused with

True Value / True Value Company LLC, 8600 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., Chicago, IL 60631 / https://www.truevalue.com/ / est. 1948 / "Master Mechanic" brand manufactured by Easco, others /

I think the Japanese connection you refer to might possibly be

Truecraft / Truecraft Tool Co., 2425 South Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL / U.S. made until acquired by Daido, Japan / (see Daido) / http://alloy-artifacts.org/other-makers-p3.html#truecraft-tool / https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/truecraft-tools-memories-of-first-tools.255703/ / https://ameblo.jp/corgibell/entry-12601727921.html /

Steelcraft? :headscrat

That is so helpful. Truly thank you so much.

Yep smack dab in the middle of kansas. Been learning alot of history about the tiny town. Fellow I fount the old sets was a railroad man first. Then married. Became a painter Mason carpenter lineman. His dad was a lineman for the railroad. He went into business with one of the simmons hardware store owners.. man Evan started up the softball team. I have his glove still atleast. It's about all I got..
I'll keep on digging. I know gramps had an old 5 drawer black toolbox with a whole trutest set. And I got a newer toolbox that all matched just sockets were digging. Shoot tiny town had simmons/ shapleigh for 70 years. Had belknap close to that long if not longer. And had true value. True value just shut down a few years ago.

I greatly appreciate the help
