Gents: I am restorating an old Cman block style grinder and the wires are cloth insulated. The wires coming off the armature have some crimps/breaks and i will need to cut them back very close to the armature to solder new wire. I mention that the breaks in the wire are very close to the armature to indicate that i will get only ONE PASS at this. When i cut them off, what is the easiest way to strip back the insulation to get some good wire exposed to solder to? I don't think a typical wire stripper will work as these rely on making a partial cut thru plastic insulation which you then pull/stretch apart. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jim

I've done it many times with a good set of wire strippers. Try starting out one gauge fatter then the actual wire and then fine tune the trimming with some very small dikes or a sharp Xacto or utility knife.

You might be dealing with asbestos insulation on the wire so be careful.
