Guys, my Garage Journal Private Message files are getting close to being too full (94%), and I keep deleting some old ones here and there to reduce it. But some I don't really want to delete...maybe the address of a GJ friend or a tool someone wants to buy if I find that I have it, etc.

If I create folders and move the various PM's there...will that free up space for new PM's? Or must I copy and paste the PM's to my computer's hard drive? (PITA...'cause I sometimes get on GJ at home, sometimes at work, sometimes on my cell, etc, etc).

Any technical assistance from you bright young internet-savvy folks will be appreciated by an old dinosaur...

My advice would be to pm yourself the information in one long PM or to email it to yourself

If you cant PM yourself, PM it to me and I will PM it back to you.

Mark all the files you'd like to save and choose from the drop down box just below the files how to download them.

So he has to do it from home, big deal.

With a memory stick/flash drive it doesn't matter where you are.

If you do, PM it to me and I will let you know. There are members on here who know my name, but no one has my address.

Thanks, Grooveking.

Today I finally figured out to go to "SENT" messages too, and use my old tactic of deleting all but the LAST post in a given thread. This frees up a lot of my space. Then, when I'm done with that, I'll take your advice, and copy those files onto my home hard drive. In fact, I think I'll also copy them onto my computer here at work, so I can reference them whenever I need to, regardless of which location I am at in a given moment.

Sorry to hear about the limitations Lump. There's a PM from me in there somewhere, a couple weeks old but no rush, I've been spending waaaay too much money lately anyway. Sounds like you might have a handle on it though.

I guess the forum software is vBulletin. I haven't worked with it much. But I always copy email and that sort of thing to text files as well (*.txt commonly known as Notepad). Then back them up on CD/DVD or Flash drive to make sure I don't lose them in the event of hard drive crash. It seems vBulletin isn't utilizing space well when you consider PMs are little more than text and just one photo uploaded in the general forum takes as much space as an individual's entire PM cache/file system. Priorities ya know. :)

I am beginning to rely more on Microsoft OneNote, which can be used to hold just about any info you want. My dad is always raving about it, and I think I can see why.

If it is just contact info or something small you are trying to save, just take a screenshot of the page and save that into a folder on your desktop
