Help:Pump Piston Removal Hein Werner WS

Is there a special tool needed to remove the Pump Piston from Hein Werner WS 1 1/2 Ton floor jack?
My jack is leaking at the interface between the pump piston the body of the pump.
How can I compress the piston to remove the clip?

Grab a small pair of vice grips, adjust them to be close with the size of the pump piston, open them up so they are just bigger than the C clip but still rest on the caging. Next Push down on the caging till you clear the C-clip, tighten vice grips, remove C-clip, Carefully remove vice grips as there is spring pressure. Unscrew piston guide, pull piston out.
