Help! Replacing windows in block wall

Hello all! I am in need of replacing a few windows in my shop but they are casement windows that are literally cemented in place! Does anyone have any experience replacing these windows? I purchased clear block to replace them with but I'd rather not seal all the windows off, I'd like to have some that I can open... Thanks!!

Thr window frame is installed in the block Wall as they lay the block courses.

Can you remove the glass sections from the frame independently?

If so do that first to Reduce the weight.
Then use a Sawzall to cut the bottom frame to the brick
Then you can start the pry the frame out of the opening.
I made two or three cuts in the frame going around and pried it all out.

Yep, sawzall the frame and use pry bars until you can bust it loose.

And what about a replacement for the window? Is there a specific window type that fits in as a replacement for these or do i need to use a regular exterior window and make a wooden frame for it?

Check around and see if any of the majors make a window around that size ... not many people make the old basement size .. but that looks larger.

Fitting in a new window would be easy -- block is great if security is an issue

Are the frames still good? If they are I would just paint them remove the busted glass and replace the glass. If you want more energy efficency build some storm windows for the inside or outside.

When I do new windows in concrete block, as mentioned, cut out the frame. get new replacement windows and drill & tapcon them in place. caulk inside & outside with suitable caulk. no need for a wood frame if you buy "retrofit" windows made to size .

My basement was set up that way.

Best way to get them out is plasma cutter cut in the middle of frame followed by a pry bar. It took about 45min per window.

Get the openings measured for custom replacements, the as above - use heat to extract the glass partitions, then cut the frame and rip it out of the hole. Insert new, tapcon/etc and caulk. Check with the home centers, both the blue and orange boxes run periodic "15% off custom door and window" sales. Works also for garage doors since they typically don't stock garage doors.

Same here. In my area the retrofit type is called "block" as it has no brickmould. Just secure it in the opening and screw or/and glue your trim inside and out.

I ordered mine from HD when the had the JennWeld 15% off special order windows several years ago. First one was longer then the learning curve kicked in.

I ordered the full windows ( no slider) since I never open the windows in the basement. The screen fasten to the outside of the window frame if needed.

I used the wavy glass blocks. They do make them with small opening sections for ventilation.

we do it all the time to install glass block windows but we use a concrete saw which makes even quicker work of it, they are a pain to get out if you don’t have a blade that cuts deep enough

Yup, sawsall or grinder, make a cut in the center of the bottom and pry up and rip it all out. Order new vinyl replacement windows, you can get sliders, casements or awnings. I would go with awnings so you can open them in the rain or if you forget to close them and it rains.

OP. When you Decide To Replace the windows Include some photos here along with your thoughts and commentary.

One Idea I saw When someone else installed This Style Of Window alone they used a 2x4 wedged outside in the opening to keep the window in the desired place. It seemed To keep it from going outside the opening before
Securing it.

The Windows you need should be pretty standard size as the cement block us all standard size. Pick up a phone!

they make replacement windows that are a little smaller so they will slip in the hole without removing block
