The short version:
I have ~30yo floor jack that had an orange body with white handle. No idea what brand etc. It was my dad's, hasn't worked in several years. I want to restore it for him but don't know what seals I need or where to get them.

Long version:
I have an old floor jack that was my dad's for YEARS!!!! I am 32 and I would hazard this floor jack is as old as I am or close to it. He taught me to work on cars, and we used this jack to build my first car (76 Camaro).
He is 70 now, and doesn't have too many projects left in him. His shop was recently robbed and he lost over $14,000 in tools. He luckily has insurance and is going to be covered. During this process I have convinced him to renovate his shop. We have tons of plans, finishing the walls, insulating, new electrical, and lighting, etc etc etc.

But as a surprise when it is all over I wan't to have this old jack restored. I have it mostly torn down. I can handle all the painting etc. But I can not figure out where to get seals for it. OR even what seals I need.

I used to have a jack that sounds similar to yours, mine was an import brand and the seals were impossible to find or just non-existent. Check with a local hydraulics repair shop they should have what you would need to do a rebuild.

Ugh. Shop thieves are the worst. They should have their noogies hooked up to 440VAC and somebody throws the switch. Hisp gang members broke into my shop when I lived in Los Angeles and took all my Milwaukee and Porter Cable tools and a bunch of other expensive stuff. That said, can you post pictures of the jack? With it being that old and with no identifying marks I'd guess it might be Japanese.

In 1983 the shop I worked for bought a similar "color" jack from the Mac tool truck! Light orange with white lettering and handle grip! That said, a picture would help!

Pictures would be helpful. There is a member on here...... I think his name is Hiball....He seems to be a wealth of info when it comes to jacks and parts.

there are also places that rebuild them for you. At work we use one.....its called Jack Xpress I think. I'm sure a google search for your area should turn up someone that either will rebuild it for you or sells parts for them.

After doing some hunting I am pretty sure it is an "Allied Hydraulics" Floor jack.

This video I found looks almost identical. The only exception is that my lift plate is black. This is also exactly what it was doing before I started "working" on it.

Here are some pics of what I am looking at now that it is opened up etc.

There was some kind of seal in that gap where my fingers are in the one picture. It was completely crumbling when I opened it up. It was like a plastic ring of some sort I think. I will post pics.

I could not see any kind of o-ring down in the hole the "pump" goes down into. Don't know what that is actually called. I must just not see it. I will have to put some more light and maybe some magnification on the subject lol. Because looking at HiBall's guide it looks like there certainly should be a seal in there.

I also couldn't get the large nut off of the center "release valve" part. I will have to put it in my dad's heavy vice and use a cheater pipe.
not sure if I need to take the piston apart further, if so how.

BTW, this is my first time posting. I really appreciate all the help. I honestly wasn't even certain anyone would reply.

added two pictures.
took the retaining ring and the two parts off the end of the piston and got an o-ring and a plastic ring out of the pump hole.

The O-rings shouldn't be much of a problem to find, but I have no idea where to get the plastic seal things.

That looks like like an older Harbor Freight jack of mine, I briefly searched for parts, but had no luck. You might try searching for HF, jack parts. I will see if I can get a part number from my jack.

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever just replaced the whole pump/piston portion of a jack?
Like maybe I can get the whole hydraulic part and put it on the old jack body

That would have been my guess. I have a Mac about that color 25 + years old.

Definitely find a hydraulics shop. If they don't have the seals you need they'll point you in the right direction.
