Help sizing these oxy acetylene tanks?

I just picked these 3/4 full tanks off Facebook pretty cheap along with a Harris torch/regulator set.

I’m trying to determine the max draw I can put on the acetylene tank. It’s about 24 1/4” tall and 7 1/2” diameter. From the Internet dumpster diving I’ve done, it appears it’s a “WQ” tank with either a 60 or 75 cu ft capacity? I don’t want to grossly exceed the 1/7 (1/10 now) rule.

I’m not trying to run a rosebud or anything, just a 10cfh 6290-0 cutting tip. The torch came with a 6290 1AC 2-piece tip that Harris lists as pulling 18-36cfh. That seems a little much for this tank.

The oxy tank I’m pretty sure is an 80cu ft. It’s 36 1/2” tall (to the top of the valve knob) and 7” in diameter.

My main use for this will be automotive heating and cutting. Any help appreciated.

You have nothing to worry about with a #0 tip, even a #3 cutting tip would be ok. Intermittent use changes thing in the 1 in 7 rule as far as I'm concerned. If your really doing a lot of heating a large rosebud running on propane is a good option.

Thanks for the insight. It’s funny, they supply that same 18-36 cfh tip with their porta torch and a 10cu ft tank. You’d think there would be red caution tape all over it saying “don’t use the included cutting tip” if it was that deadly. I mean that’s 13-26 times the advised 1/7 rule on a 10ft tank.

I’m gonna see how it goes with the Acetalyne, definitely considering LP. I’m not much of a welder, retired auto tech. Sick and tired of waiting on mapp gas to maybe get things hot enough while heating up everything around where I actually need the heat. Just needed a good old gas axe!

I contacted Linde today and they informed me the Acetalyne tank is what they call a #2 tank and it is rated at 60 cu ft. They “only” charge $80 for an exchange. Thanks for the help everyone.
