Just bought a 2 drawer Snap-On tool box and can't remove the drawers. Well actually just one drawer. The other one was removed forcibly;mangling the slide on one side. I can see that there is a spring that lays against a detent but cannot depress the spring. It is on the back of the slide and has resisted all attempts at depressing. Is there a special tool for this? I have tried using small diameter round rod bent into a U shape with no luck. Any thoughts?

Yep. You can buy one or you can make one out of an old hack saw blade like I did. There are many YouTube videos that show you how to make the tool and how to use it. Just search for Snap On drawer removal.

Thanks for the info.I looked at the videos of the tool but the slides in the box I have don't have that kind of a stop. It looks like a small piece of bent up spring steel riveted to the slide. I'll try and post a pic of it. This is a pretty old box I think.

A zip tie may work too. I have an MBC Metal Box Corp center chest that was a booger to get the drawers out of. Some I used my hacksaw blade tool I made and the others in used a thick zip tie. Trick was to use th smooth side to ride against the sheet metal tab. I believe MBC was the OEM for many older snappy boxes. From what I saw they have a similar retention set up for the drawer slides.

Post pics and good luck!

Ouch slides are pretty hammered. The hack saw /zip should work for those though. They can be straightened up with pliers, hammer and a vice.
The trick is to get your blade/tie over the bump on the drawer and behind the metal tab so that the drawer is released and the tab won't re engage the drawer. It takes practice, the first I did it took for ever. Just don't get frustrated and yank on the drawer.

Any luck so far?

This is correct. The trick is to get the bend just right on your homemade drawer removal tool so that the tab rides over the stopper. It is a little bit of a pain at first and you may not even realize that you've made it over the tab.

After some practice and patience you'll realize that the drawer pulled out a hair farther than it usually does and that's when you know that you've successfully jumped the tab stopper.

Still at it but no luck yet. If you think that slide is bade the left one on the drawer that is out is bent like a pretzel! Hoping I can get it out but straightening that one is not viable. When I get frustrated I'll put it away and move on to something else. Not in any hurry and I'm only into the box for $5 so if I can't do it it's no big thing.
