I'm looking for a stud finder for my lath & plaster ceiling. I've looked online about what kind to buy. I've read the magnetic type that uses neodymium magnets. So I figured I try to do it with just the magnet as I have a few neodymium magnets from speakers and computer hard drives. I ran it across the plaster but I feel no pulling or resistance for any nails or screws. I made sure i had tried a big enough area.
Will the magnetic type stud finders still work for me? Should I try the other type of stud finder?
