Hi,

So I touched up the walls in my garage with the original paint that was used to paint the walls and I am having a problem. It is CLEARLY obvious where I touch it up. I don't know if I mixed it good enough or what.

Help!! I don't know what to do or how to fix this.

Look carefully in the picture... It is way more noticeable in person and I hate it.

Here is a pic:

I did the same damn thing in my shop.
You could take a quarter size piece off of the wall and take it to a paint place to match it. Then simply mud the spot and paint it.

How long has it been since the wall was originally painted? Even with paint from the same can as was originally used you will see a difference due to fading, dirt, and such - even just having another coat (three instead of two) will make a noticeable difference in that area.

If I have to touch up, I always just repaint the whole wall. You won't notice the difference between that wall and the other three like you will notice the difference on the same wall.

It's just the age of the paint and everyday dirt, is why it doesn't match. Repaint the entire wall or room.

Are you brushing the touch-up areas while the walls were originally rollered maybe? Get a litttle 4" roller next time. Brushing will sometimes leave a glossier finish that makes it look like a different color shade.

Yes, I did use a brush to touch up. The walls were sprayed and not rollered...

After having knowing that do you have anymore advice?

Just paint the complete wall. Hardly any paint matches after it gets a little age to it.

+1 ^^ what he said.

Even with the exact same can of paint, even if you're doing the touch up just a few weeks later, you can see a difference based on application method. For example, if the original were sprayed & you touched up with a brush, you'll see the difference.

Just go "corner to corner" and you'll be fine.

A sprayer vs a rolled or brushed finish will appear different. To touch up a sprayed finish, use a roller with a relative thick nap and keep it on the dry side (i.e., not soaked in paint). Good luck, you may have to repaint the wall and stop at the corners.

I'm will probably have the same issue. I need to touchup my garage in the spots where the former owner had some rigged-up shelving that I removed. I'm affraid it will not match but then again, I'm not too **** if it doesn't match perfectly.

There is no fix outside of painting the entire wall. That's pretty much it... end of story... put a fork in it!
