Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum. Trying to find alittle help with my ego electric chainsaw. Can't find an answer to my problem online so far and I'm about ready to throw the damn thing in the trash (battery excluded) and be done with it. So any help would be appreciated.

I'm a new home owner and I got this saw after an ice storm in February because I had 2 downed trees laying across my fence. I was able to lop up the tree into movable sections to get it off of my fence, ended up with 6 pieces 8'-10' in length and about 1' thick. I was able to chunk up 3 of those pieces into logs (maybe 20-25 cuts) before the saw started struggling. I figured the chain was worn out so I bought i new one. I'm new to yard tools, didn't know you could sharpen them, but thats neither here nor there. So I've got the new chain on and its still barely cutting. Feel like I'm getting more friction on the wood than anything because it smells like I'm starting a fire. I take it down, clean it, check my bar oil, check to see if my bar is bent. I see no issues. I try tightening and loosening the chain. Still nothing.

At this point the only thing I can figure is the motor has weakened or something. Can anyone point me in the right direction here or am I just out $250 and need to go buy a new saw?

Take the chain and bar off and see if the sprocket turns when you pull the trigger. My guess would be bent bar or damaged nose sprocket. Check the bar for straightness and also see if the nose sprocket moves easily Turing it with a finger

I had bought the Ego weedeater, and love it. Years of gas powered weedeaters, it's just as powerful, way less pita.
Bought the chainsaw. Not impressed. It's OK for limbing, or small tasks, like removing bushes, etc.
Your issues sounds like the one I have.

A few basic thoughts....Are you sure you have the new chain going in the right direction? IE cutting teeth should be pointing forward on the top side of the bar. Are you using bar oil? The bar/chain need lubrication when in use. Is the chain tension-ed correctly? As a rule of thumb you should be able to pull the chain at the mid length of the top of the bottom of the bar and the drive teeth on the inside of the chain should just about be all viable.

Back when I was young I was helping a friend with a downed tree on his rural lot. After we were done for the day, I thought I'd put on a fresh chain. Between doing it by campfire and numerous beers, I put it on backwards. Easy enough to do, LOL.

He said the saw started struggling before he put the new chain on.

I thought maybe I had put the new chain on backwards, I've flipped it and then flipped it back around. Still no success. I checked for a bend in the bar like one of the responses suggested, I can't see any visible bend.

When my wife gets home I will get her to help me record it trying to cut and post it here. Thanks for all of the responses guys.

How about a pinch in the bar's Channel?

Don't guess on the chain direction. Looking at the teeth and thinking about how they cut will tell you which way it needs to go.

It could also not be a very charp chain or you may have touched it in the dirt while running, which will almost instantly dull a chain
