I coveted this thing ever since it showed up on the auctioneer's website photo gallery and when I went to to a "preview" the day before, I couldn't find it. We went through the photo gallery again and one of the assistants knew right where it was.....buried under 3 other tool boxes. I was glad someone hadn't snagged it or a family member had had 2nd thoughts.
Long story short, it was placed on a hayrack with a lot of other tools etc. and when the bidding started, I was willing to bid a lot more than what I got it for....$38.50. Yeah, the PO repainted it flat black, but there's not a lick of rust dents, or grease making me wonder if it had ever been used. As an aside, I could not find ANY other Plomb tools in the entire auction grounds except for two screwdrivers. The auctioneer said the family had no interest in keeping the man's tools, so everything was there.
Fast forward to my post topic. The "PLOMB TOOL CO LOS ANGELES" seems to date it before WWII and the logo decal inside(which the PO kindly masked off before the repaint job) is way different than the gold naked lady logo on my catalogs from the mid 40's. The ship/airplane/fist of tools logo is one I haven't seen before and I'm wondering if the Plomb experts out there could help me determine which year(or close guess) this thing was made. My catalogs list this box, but it has a different embossing on the top.
Thanks in advance for the help. I think most all of my non Pebble Plombs will fit in this thing and maybe another will come along for the late model stuff.......fat chance. Won't be selling this one, that's for sure!!!
