Hello,

I am looking at a used Wayne air compressor. The seller does not know the cfm rating at any pressure, but did give me a model number. Problem is I cannot find a manufacturer's website for Wayne air compressors. Did they get bought out/go out of business? Anyways, if anybody can help me find info for a model 3106VS Wayne air compressor I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Sure, it'll be tomorrow at the earliest though. What was giving me pause is that I couldn't find anything on Wayne compressors, just that they were old(er). I do know it is a 5 hp, 80 gallon 2 stage compressor w/ a rebuilt motor. I was hoping to at least get a list of Wayne compressors matching this description and see what they were capable of in general.

My father and brother have worked in the air compressor business for eons. I will check with them if you will be patient with me. Wayne has been out of business for decades. They were a pretty good unit just a victim of industry consolidation. You can expect 3-4 cfm/HP on any good two stage compressor. So figure on 15-18cfm out of the unit and most older 2 stages were good to 200 psi though I don't recommend running them any higher than you have to. They will last longer if you run it at 125-135 psi off/ 90 psi on.

I have a reply to your inquiry about the Wayne compressor. Firstly, they are among the very best compressors made in their catagory, they are comparable to Ingersoll-Rand, Quincy, and Kellogg.

Now the bad news. They have not been made since the mid 1950's. They use Kellogg valve components which are probably still available but a special tool is required to remove valves. My dad made his own tool to do valve work.

If it is good shape and you can pick it up cheap get it. If it needs valves and you're not handy it is not a good deal. To check valve condition do a pump up test. Time the compressor from zero gauge pressure to 125 psi. I will have to dig into my books to figure out where it should perform.

I hope this is of help to you.

In case this helps with your decision, my father-in-law owns a company that sells Wayne Replacement Parts. (and many other hard-to-find replacement parts for air compressors). I hope this helps with your situation!

I saw a Wayne compressor on the local CL last month and found that they went out of business or were bought out about 20 years ago. They were considered high quality along the lines of Curtis, Kellogg and Quincy. There are a few places that have parts for them. Perhaps if you ask these people they might be able to give you information.

You should be getting about 4 CFM per horsepower so if it is driven by a 5 HP motor you should be getting around 20 to 22 CFM delivered. IF the thing is in good shape. Piston/ring wear do not really affect performance unless they are really worn. The biggest contributor to capacity is the valves. Wayne is a good compressor. They were bought out some years ago by the Dresser Co and then by LeRoi company.

Re: Help w/ Wayne air compressor?

I too have a Wayne 2 stage 3 phase compressor I was able to get it out of a metal fab shop I worked at but owner was in car wreck and building sold so HELL YES I wanted it! this baby ran several brake presses up to 600 ton, punch presses, 3/8 metal sheer etc. This thing ran smoother and much quieter than my Craftsman 5 HP 30 gal! Question is I do not have 3 phase power! I am not sure if I want to go through the hassle of getting a motor to run the 3rd phase of power like most do out in the rural areas or portable work shops. this unit is a Dresser 400 twin with a Lincoln 5 HP 3 phase motor plate reads Frame 184T RPM 1745 S/N 1173288 volts 230/460 amps 13.6/6.8 service factor 1.15 Lincoln code T-2523 tank is a Wood Ind. 80 gal stamped 1972 200 psi sh 154 hd 134. I would like to put another single phase motor or sell/trade for something to be able to hook up to 220 volt 80 gal tank in my garage. I do use several air tools and we all know how fast they drain the air! Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Buy a single phase 5hp motor in the same frame size at 1800 rpm and make sure you end up with the pump spinning at 800 rpm.

I have the same pump.......a WABCO (that is what is on the tag) 2avc which is the same as the 400.

You would be crazy to not use this pump.

Unless you have other 3 phase equipment, I would not bother with a rotary phase converter. A compressor needs to be able to run at random times and leaving a converter running would be pointless just for the air compressor.

I would like to know how much is this compressor worth? If someone can help me it would be great. This compressor didnt work for many years, turned for a couple of times and worked very well. I think it is about 200l bottle, with three belts, Yugoslavian motor "Sever". Generally in very good condition. 20180617_121136.jpegPicture_20180617_172634735.jpg20180617_121059.jpgPicture_20180617_172614492.jpeg
