What wire would be best for this? 12/2 for all interior to the breaker box...what would i need to run from the breaker box to the outside meter? and how big of a breaker box and breaker? What if i decide to do 220 hookup for a welder or somethin,g what would i need forthis...Thanks

Charles, the meter is the house meter. garage is 24x24 with 8 foot walls. detached, wire would have to be run about 30-50 feet from meter to the garage subpanel...

Generally, you cannot just come off the meter. If you have a disconnect outside you would need a dual disconnect, one feeding the house, one supplying the garage. I'm betting its a 200 amp or less service, and you don't often find a 200 amp meter socket that is designed with double taps, and double tapping of a meter, or anything else for that matter, unless it is approved for dual taps, is not to code.

Do you have just a meter outside? or do you also have a service disconnect switch outside? if you have the disconnect, is it in the same enclosure with the meter or are they separate boxes connected together with a ******?
