Hi everyone, we just moved into our new place and I plan to finish the garage in the next month or two. Right now the garage is totally drywalled, mudded, taped, and painted with painted concrete floors. There is a makeshift "bench" that I plan to rip out. There is also a 2x6 floor 4' deep above the garage door which I am leaving. Otherwise, I am essentially starting with a clean slate.

Some plans:

-Repair walls and paint
-Build step in front of door
-Build overhead storage around top of walls
-Build cabinets for L-shaped bench
-Wall mounted storage for aerosol cans
-Some sort of flooring

I have a motorbike to park in here but there will never be a car inside so do not need to leave room for that.

Here is a google sketchup of the area with my paint scheme.

Please help me with some ideas. This is my first real garage. Want to make it very efficient, LOTS of storage to keep things neat, and make it somewhere I enjoy being (even more than I do now :bounce: ).

Thank you.

A few ideas. I am concerned that the black / grey shelving will make it look very dark in the garage. Right now there is one flourescent fixture with 2 4' tubes (in the middle of the garage on the bulk head) and plan to add 1 more fixture a bit closer to the bench/door on either side of the bulk head, as well as 1 fixture underneath the overhead storage "deck" built above the garage door. This way with the garage door open there will be 3 fixtures visible and with the door closed there will be 4.

I think I would also add a smaller fixture above the bench (under the overhead storage shelf) and one underneath the cabinets above the bench.

Sorry bout that.

The garage will be used for general maintenance and household DIY stuff. There will be some light carpentry (side tables, picture frames, etc.) and mainly fixing up and working on some older motorcycles I own. I would like to leave enough room to pull my car in (2001 Grand AM coupe) in an emergency but never plan to put it in there. As long as I only have moveable stuff along the back half of the garage, should be fine. I would like to keep the left hand side of the garage wall open and the right hand side (beside the bench) for any extra storage I need.

Keep in mind, I will have overhead storage around the perimeter of the garage.
