Help with #127 Stanley planer

Hi all! You guys were so great at helping me with my vice that I'm hoping you can help me here. I have this Stanley number 127 liberty bell wood woodplaner and I am trying to figure out if it's missing Is a part or 2. Most of the ones I see have some kind of dial where the liberty bell is mine has just a rivet or something like it a bolt I think it is. I'm afraid to ask if anyone knows how old it is or what it's worth but if anyone has their 2 cents to throw in that would be great!

Looks like you may be missing a small handwheel where that rivet on the lever cap is. This video may be helpful:

Thanks! That's just what I thought was missing I just didn't know what to call it so that I could try to find an original one or even a replacement. I'm anxious to see if there are any markings on the wood still to show how old it really is

Some history here on the liberty bell plane. You need to scroll up one or two to get dates and things. I suspect the screw thread will be an oddball, knowing Stanley.

Couple of guys sell plane parts, but they may cost more than the whole plane cost.

I know she's in rough shape but I love her! I was able to gently brush the end of the wood and came up with "Stanley rule and level number 127" I am not going to replace this wood. And I don't want to Lose the Words so I am going to have to be creative. I did find a place that sold original parts in that particular piece they were selling for 39.95. I saw some on eBay for much cheaper but not sure if it is original or repo.

It looks like yours was made in the 1886 - 1905 time period. The 127s were made 1876 - 1918. Realistically, yours is too far gone for restoration.

I agree unfortunately! But I still love it and I am still going to figure something out. We weren't planning on selling it or anything anyway. I just want to preserve what is left of it basically. I was considering some filler for the cracks in the wood And I have been watching a lot of restoration videos on planners like this so I'm hopeful we can figure something out without changing it's nature too drastically

You can actually bring that back to usable by adding a thin sole under the existing wood. Now to make it pretty, you should level up the bottom so the new sole is level. I went from this:

I used a thin piece of ipe decking material, and now have a very tight mouth in a very hard sole.

X2 on that, the best use of this plane would be to donate parts to save a better example.

That's amazing! And you've made me feel a lot better because I was feeling pretty down about my purchase or the thought of just tearing it apart for other people. I will look into the way you did yours and see what we can do! Thank you for the comment and pictures
