Hello, i want to buy a new tool boxe, my choice stopped on

The krsc416a

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...roup_ID=682984&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

And the krsc46

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...roup_ID=682831&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

I cant chose between the sliding top or the one that open Like a door,

For the sliding one, the positive thing i see from chosing this one is the fact that it come with a stainless top, And that i could always use the top as a table and still use the top storage

For the one that open, the positive thing that i see from chosing this one is i could use magnetic tool holder top put on the lid, ( like socket and wrench)

Does any body have experiance with them or any tool boxe else to show me, my maximum budjet is 2000$ so ,

Thanks alot

That sliding top would be a PITA for working on cars. It takes up too much space opened and it would be too easy to gouge the side of a car with it.

Are you specifically looking at a large roll cart of would you rather have a bigger box?

For $2k, you can find a good double bank KRL with a stainless top on craigslist if you keep a look out.

i have both and although they are both nice the sliding top is not as convenient as you would think,it's bulky and not functional at all.for practical use i would stick with the opening lid.

Well i work with heavy equipement in a very big garage so space isnt a problem,

I would prefer a large roll cart since i dont always work at the same place..

The sliding top is that much bs? Since the drawer on the top gonna be used for socket and impact, and having the bonus of a work table just beside you, i thought the sliding top was a great option since you can put tool on the top and still use your top drawer '

Thanks For the all the reply i really appreciate it

And btw i live in quebec so creglist is not an option for meh ^^

I work in shop, and i just ordered the 46. I like the flip top lid. I need to be able to move from one end of the shop to another at any given time. I have a cheaper cart that worked ok, but the drawers would not stay shut, even standing still. Thats why i got the snap on for the lock and roll drawers.i scratched the heck out of a caravan bumper when my drawer flew open as i was moving my cart. It did as much damage to the vehicle as the new cart costed from snap on. For a pro shop, the flip top is easier to move to a different bay quicker. You can just run with it. If you have something stacked on your cart from a project, you probably dont want to drag it to another project. I dont know many shops that let you work on a job with no interuptions very often. So its nice to just be able to grab the cart and run with it.

Personally I'd look for one with a solid top, only because I work in our squadrons tool section and see what lasts and what doesn't. Anything hinged lasts about 2 years min 3 max. The ones that we have that are the traditional solid tops are still going strong that are easily twice that with the exceptions of the kra2005 I believe it is off the top of my head. Less moving parts means less to fail.

Some of the guys at my shop have had the slide top in the past, they all have the flip top lid now. Some pull the struts so the lid lays all the way down, but its a auto shop shop without much room between bays. For your heavy equipment shop the slider may be alright, but i would get a side tray if you want to set tools on it. I like to put all my sockets under the lid so they are all easy to get to. Plus, I never close my lid..........people just set stuff on top when I do.

Did you ever try to put some magnetic tool holder on the lid ? I mean when its open , it add some more fast tool acces,

I would use that cart as my main tool box, i work where mostly all superficial tool like tap and wrench after 1" 3/4 socket and alot snap on tool are avaible for every one, that why i would get a big roll cart since i dont need much much tool,

Does your cart roll easy and smooth?

Moving tops just **** period IMO. Flat surfaces collect stuff, once they do it's ALWAYS a pain in the *** to get to whatever is under the moving surface, (whether it slides or tilts..)

This is my gripe with top boxes generally. Why would someone want that detraction in a roller of any description is beyond me. Get a roller that has a solid top, and put a wood top on it. make it useful... As long as it has large wheels, I see no difference...

I just ordered the cart, so I dont have it yet. I have seen pictures of guys using the lid.........I use that for pictures of my wife and kids, and magnet parts trays ( i have 5) and my thats about it. With this snap on cart i will have alot more room so I may try something like that. I love using tool carts for work, it made way more productive.

I would definitely go with the krsc46 with the lid. I used to have a matco kart similar to it, though I, like outlawmws said, like a work surface, I had a kra2007 after the matco cart and I really liked being able to use it as a kart with a work surface because of its size.

I thought the krsc416a would be an option because you can still use the top drawer and you still have a work table as opposite of the opening lid like the krsc46 ,i would really like to see one irl just to see the quality of the sliding lids

Two other things to consider is the convenience of have a work area right where your tools are (like a traditional with a stainless top for easy clean up), as well as the possibility of people putting junk on top of your box lid. The rubber covers on the tool boxes are a pain to clean up when clippings and fluid gets between the grooves, and look like hell when they get torn up.

Like Felix1, I am looking for a box as well. I like the krsc46 but not sure on the flip lid. I was wondering that maybe KRA4107 might be a better option as it gives you a solid place to put things. Any thoughts?

Kra4107 look great, but it does not come in green :( its also a little over the 2k budjet i have

also where i work, i do not have problem with people putting stuff on other tool boxe, but, the fact that the kscr46 you cant use the lid storage of you put stuff on it really fk me up lol, and the fact that the 416a with the slidding top you need 20 inch more in the back of your tool boxe to use the storage under the lid fk me up too, haha, and the green colors is only avaible with 4k+ $ tool boxe ..

I seriously need to see a 416a with my eye haha

For the price the tool boxe cost, i would like ending with the colors i like ^^

I looked and looked and looked at carts. I like having all my sockets for quick access, so for me they go in the top compartment. I watched the thread in here on tool carts. The napa one looks great, but I am out of room in my tool box so I went bigger with the snap on. Also the lock and roll drawers were a big plus because my performax cart drawers kept opening at bad times. It almost tipped once when all four drawers came open pulling it over a drain grate. I am wicked pumped to get my snap on cart! It just may be to pretty to use!

i would go with the krsc416a becouse you could have the lid as a work surface and if you need something from under the lid you dont have to clear it off

I generally am way more impressed by Snap on boxes than matco, but the newer matco large cart is about in the same league as these. it has a fold up top that has a stainless sheet on it for a week surface. they are pretty nice. a buddy in my shop has one.
