The compressor was running fine all day, it got bumped pretty hard while it was building up pressure. It got up to around 60psi and shut off, I can't get it to turn back on. Under neath the on/off switch there's a plastic "rod" that was loose and just rattling around, I'm thinking its connected to the pressure switch? Could that be my problem?

I'm not an expert, but the plastic "rod" should be the unloader discharge line (I think some are polyethylene just like the one found on icemaker kits). This bleeds air from the line going into your tank to allow for loadless starts.

In any case, this should not cause it to shut off early, but it might prevent your motor from re-starting correctly. Have you checked your "overload" reset button on the motor?

A photo might help.
