How can i check if im getting spark on a 1997 ford f150 with a 4.6 romeo
New motor every thing hooked up turns over smell gas but does not try to start need help driving me nuts

1. Take a ignition wire off a spark plug. Put that wire on a extra spark plug, ground the spark plug to the engine, have someone try to start the engine. Look at the spark plug , note if there are any sparks between the electrode.

2.If you have a timing light . Hook up the timing light . See if it flashes when the engine tries to start.

3.If you have a spark plug tester hook it up and look for spark. Try to start engine.

4. Have some one hold the end of the spark plug wire. Try to start the engine . Look at their face You can tell if a spark is there.

This is the best way of checking your ign. for spark that I know of,,,,,,, but you'll need a new helper each time ya check.:evil:

Yep it tends to piss off the tester so they pretty much refuse to do it again unless of course you have a slow tester then you may be able to get moe than one test out of them :D.

I believe those are coils over each plug. What i do it take the plug where it connects to the coil and hook up a meter with memory and see if anything reads.
