Greetings to Al,

I got an older model B&D drill from my Father-n-Law before he passed and want to clean it up and get it back into fully working order but need help with manual and parts (if available) Only thing I know about it is off the company's tag on the drill and that it is pretty heavy for a drill. I have attached pictures of the tag and several of the drill. Most are not real good but I hope someone can direct me to a manual and source of parts, I am pretty sure it need brushes and possible bearings/bushings. I runs but is noisy.

Did you try contacting Black and Decker?

A few years ago, my dad contacted them regarding his circa 1930's 5/16" chuck drill that he inherited from his father. As I recall, they put a new cord on it at his request and gave a rough idea as to when it was probably made. I have no idea what it cost, though.

Oldsmobile,
Thank you for the info and idea. I looked at the B&D website but it doesn't recognize that drill and I guess I will have to keep on trying to make contact with a human there. Have a great day.

B&D used to have service centers that were very helpful. Might want to look into that.
I used to work for them and I always thought it was insane how long they had Parts available for.
Bushings and bearings are easy, remove them and find the basic replacement part

Switches can be a little harder but that type switch was used in many tools for many years so there is likly a similar one available if you need it

Brushes are easy, armatures can be rewound if you really want to.

In my experience, if you take it apart and clean everything up, put fresh lube in it you will likly be amazed. If it runs now it likly won’t take much to fix it up

By the way, they made a version of that unit all the way into the 80s. That one is likly 50s or older

I've found that with power tools most companies have stripped their spare parts inventories and staff to the barest minimums - if not just closed them down outright. Much better luck at mom and pop local places who might have NOS stuff tucked away or internet aggregate sites.

I've had good luck with schematics and parts possibilities here:

Though this place seems new to me and quite nice:

Brushes and bearings are easy
An electric motor shop will have brushes. If you can’t get the right size I have filed larger ones down to fit.

Bearings and bushings, just go to a bearing supply, house or look the number up online.
The fact that it runs makes it easy

Not sure that this really helps at all, but the lower drill on this page from the 1953 B&D catalog is very similar to yours:

In 1953, $60 was a LOT of money.

That drill has a hole for a pipe handle, and you should get a piece of black pipe and make one. If it's like others I've seen, it will have enough torque that you'll be glad to have it.

I'd be sure to check the gearbox for lube because it can dry up with age. You have a nice example of a time when B&D made some of the best electric tools on the market. I have a 1/2" version of that type and I'll never sell it.
