Need help with a Craftsman ratchet that I got at an estate sale. Model #42791 3/8 flex quick release. I would very much like to find a rebuild kit but they are NLA # 44782. Can any one tell what size of the spring is and if any other kit may work. I was thinking kit #43437 may work, but would have to reuse the old selector switch and pawl.

Thought about it, may just do that. None of the Lowes around me has one in stock at the moment.

Was able to exchange it at Lowes near the office. However the process was an act of congress. 30-40 min and track down manager. They need training.

Plus side its a 72t, and made in Taiwan.

90% of the time if you take it apart, clean and reassemble it will work as it should.

This thread has my attention. I returned a broken Craftsman staple gun to a Sears store and was told they no longer honor the Craftsman hand tool warrantee, but reluctantly replaced it with an inferior gun that uses Sears proprietary staples.

I now have a 3/8ths ratchet with a failed internal, so I will take it to my local Lowe's and try and have it replaced. Even if it is with an inferior tool, it is better than no working tool.

l also have a Craftsman electric die grinder with a failed bearing. I brought it to a local Sears repair/parts store and they no longer support parts for my die grinder. At some point, I will seek a source of replacement bearings and return it to service. In the mean time, I have been using a Harbor Freight electric die grinder and has worked flawlessly.

WooHoo..I returned my Craftsman 3/8ths drive ratchet that was skipping to my local Lowe's to exchange for a working unit. They exchanged it, no questions asked. This was good to know, as I have a good number of Craftsman hand tools from years ago. Maybe my experience will encourage someone else to try an exchange for failed tools.

Is that the old school ratchet that has a ball on the top edge of the ratchet head that you depress to add oil? If so, i don't any of the existing old 30 tooth ratchet kits will fit it. those ratchets with the lube point are slightly different internally.
