Hi Guys, I'm hoping to get a little help getting this jack back in working order. I guess the first thing I need to do is identify what kind of jack it is. I can make out 1 1/4 ton from the casting, but I don't know anything else.

Also one of the rear wheels is missing. Anyone know where I can get a replacement ?

Thanks for any/all help !

p.s. - I have the handle, just didn't use it for the pics

Thanks for the reply Hiball.

WOW ! I've read and reread that thread a couple of times and all I can say is WOW ! I'm amazed and a little overwhelmed. I cant say I'm looking to take it to the same degree as Elroy, I really just would like to get this jack operational.

I guess the first place to start is that rear wheel. Anyone know where I can find a replacement ?

Hey Guys,

I was finally able to find a set of rear casters for this jack, so I'm bumping this thread up. Now I'm ready to get it fixed and working again.

I have to say though that I have a lot of reservations. The last thing I want is to damage it beyond repair.

Is it possible to determine the age of the from these pics ?

Is there a certain order that I need to follow in regards to disassembly ?

Any do's and dont's I should look out for ?

I've read Elroys thread but I don't want to take any chances.

Thanks guys

Judging from the outside, what you find inside may not be pretty - tear it down completely before you buy any seal kits.

The hardest part will be removing the tank nut - a pin spanner might do it, if it's big enough. If you opt for a pipe wrench, stay away from the seam where the nut meets the reservoir - you muck up that area, and it's game over.

The packing nut is brass, so go easy on it. In fact, you could probably remove the packing nut and packing, then pull the ram out before anything else. You'll be able to get a good look at the cylinder - if it's corroded/pitted, you may want to rethink things.

Thanks Paul !

That's kinda what I wanted to know - better to go for the packing nut before the tank nut.

I think I'll hit it with wd40 for a few days before I try to get it apart.

Well I finally have an update for this thread. The jack is fixed and working just as it should !! :bounce:

I didn't fix it. There was no way I could disassemble the ram, and rather than ruin it, I figured I'd find a pro to do it. Good luck with that ! I tried 4 different equipment repair shops - all good guys -and no one would touch it. :headscrat

I go out to Indy each year for the 500 and asked a friend of mine out there if he knew anyone who could fix it. He said maybe, so I brought it out there. That guy also said no.

After asking around a bit I found Kevin at KTS hydraulic in Indy. When I walked in he saw it in my hand and knew exactly what it was. He was able to fix it for a fair price and even gave a 1 year warranty.

So if you're in the area and in need of an old school repair pro I would recommend him for sure !
