Help with a flower pot hanger

A friend has asked me to make him a hanger for a flower pot because he can't find one tall enough in any stores.

Something like this:

The problem is that the taller you make it, the more leverage the flower pot will have, so more strength is needed. I'm thinking of using 1/8" wall 1x1 square tubing. I'll either make pie cuts/welds at the top so I can form the tubing into a candycane shape, or finish the top with a large ball bearing or something, and just use some solid round bar for the hook similar to the image.

Basically, I'm still at square one here and any pointers would be great. Better design? More appropriate materials? Obviously I want it to look decent, but to be strong enough as well. He needs it to be about 8' tall.

Just make the vertical post out of the square tube (or round tube/pipe), put the decorative cap on top, and make the curved 'candy-cane' hook out of some 3/8" or 1/2" solid stock (round or square). Done.

Unless you have a way to bend the square tube as-is (mandrel bender, tubing roller with square dies if using square tube or round tube dies for round tube), to me making all those pie-cuts and rewelding it back together would just not be too productive.

X2 for the above post. The square tube will give you the rigidity your looking for. For the scroll work I recommend using different diameter pipe as jigs . Just remember to work outside to inside. If you use 1/4 to 3/8 " rod you should be able to make the scrolling with just a torch heating the section you're working the radius on.

If you're good with the hammer you can hand scroll it as well.
