Help with a new 3 bay garage

My wife and I hope to be closing on a new house soon. As a Ford car nut, a decent garage was a must. I do not have exact measurements on this garage except to say "It's big enough"!

All I need now is a shed to put the yard **** in.

I would be interested in some type of floor covering. I like the epoxy coatings since I do alot of my own wrenching and will use the space for more than just show. But I have to admit, that checker board tile looks fantastic.

I'd like to do a lift, but I fear the yet to be installed garage door opener would get in the way. Are there other options? I may just forget the door opener on the bay with the lift.

Here are some pics of the (soon to be mine) man room:

I just realized, this was my first post. I have been lerking for awhile, I felt like I've been here awhile.

I plan to park my 2004 Mercury Marauder, my wifes mini van and probably my F250 if it'll fit, in this garage. Or I may leave a bay clear for a work area. Not sure yet. I'll work about all that AFTER we own the place. :D

Thanks,
Charlie

EDIT:

We got the house and are moved in. I must have moved my **** around the garage 4 times by now!! LOL, I'll be searching around here for awhile.

Welcome!

You could remove the current spring setup from each door and replace it with a torsion spring. Then you would be able to get an opener that attached to the torsion bar. This would mount on the front wall and would be out of the way. You could also do it to just one door, if needed.

bmwpower,
Thats what I also want to do before getting a lift. Any ideas on what companies make the best openers? I did see some past threads on your floor project (looks great, update please). If you had to do it again would still go that way or do the tiles? By the way nice cars, I to have seen the light and love the brand. Saving for a toy to play with, M3,M????

He could also move the tracks up closer to the ceiling in addition to the torsion spring. It looks like the tracks getting moved up would gain a good 2 feet or so.

When the time is right, I'm going to go with a couple of LiftMaster commercial openers. LiftMaster definitely has the market in this space.

As for the floor, after a couple of months of work getting it done, I would still go the epoxy route. I'm a clean freak and I don't think i'd be happy with tiles. Again, just my opinion. There is a place and time for tiles, just not in my garage.

Just picked this little 16x14 shed. Now the garage has some room.

We have been looking into some sheds. Is that a prefab or did you build it? I am limited to a 200 sq ft shed. I dont know if it would be cheeper to build it or have one brought in with a flat bed.

Nice shed

I have the same Issue as you a 3 car garage with no room
Oddly enough my wife is the one bugging me to build another
28X26 garage for me.Normally i wouldnt argue with her on this
but my budget is tighter than my greed.

and logically what good is a new garage if you cant afford to out-fit it properly ie...
lifts,floor,heat lights, tv, couch etc

so maybe a shed like you have done and some toys for the existing 3-cr is the way to go

:dunno: sorry just thinking outloud

The shed was built off site and trucked in. I think this way is cheaper unless you find the right guy to build it. The price on this shed was $3000 and I got it for $2500. As for the site built one the price was $4500. I did not push for a deal at the time. Mabe I could get it for $4000. FYI

Re: Help with a new 3 bay garage -Update

Over the past few weeks I got the shed and garage set up. The shed is from Black Bear and is a prefab. My dad and I leveled the area with a bobcat and built a foundation out of treated 6X6's and about 10 pick up truck loads of crush n' run stone. Not shown in the pic is a ramp I made out of treated wood left over from a deck project.

The garage is finally set up.

I ran electric and hooked up the compressor. More outlets and lighting will follow soon. I want to spend a little time working in there before I place lights and outlets.

Everything is set up to be a productive working garage, but may be rearranged. Once I have the final idea, outlets, lights, cable, phone and paint will follow.

Here are the pics. Thanks for looking. Opinions and suggestions welcome.

Garage door openers are inthe near future. I still have not decided. I doubt a lift will be possible or practical in this garage. So the standard garage door set up may be fine...

Shoot the group exact ceiling height, garage depth and door height info....you may be able to get one of the doors refitted with a high-lift track and get a lift under it, especially if the garage is deep enough to position the lift far enough back to get the tall part of the lifted vehicle behind the door opener (which will be up tight against the ceiling).

what is above the ceiling? is there a large attic?

if so it makes a nice storage area - pull down ladder, plywood floor and lights - make sure the ceiling joists can handle the load though.
