I'm taking a wild guess here, but with the way the table miters and small size, I'd guess it's designed for cutting miters for frames, either picture frames or maybe aluminum window screen frames...just a guess.

I saw your post when you asked about its listing on CL.
The configuration reminds me a lot of a Scotchman cold saw, at least a little. Though it is nowhere near as solid. The oiler looks to me like it is meant to oil the part being cut, and that would explain why the guard appears to be built to keep spray down to a minimum.

Aluminum window screen frames would indeed make a lot of sense to me. Whatever it is, it seems to be built around a single purpose, but I could see it being used for a bunch of things.

Interesting saw I tried some reverse engineering by way of the makers motor; thinking maybe they might list some of the companies they made motors for without any luck.

Next I tried a combo of names for the porta-saw without any luck.

At least I gave it my best shot, sorry no luck.

I've seen similar saws in metal shops. The oil can be any light oil used to lubricate during cutting. It's used to cut 45 degree angles in metal items as pointed out above. It's a purpose built tool but if you need to cut a lot of metal, then you have a saw that will last forever.

Thanks for all of the answers. Did not know it was a metal cutting saw. Am I fine to cut wood with it? Also, does it need the oil of I'm not cutting metal?

Can you get a good shot of the blade? It appears to me like a carborundum blade, but who knows if the blade is correct or not.
Does the oiler exit onto the blade or does it lube the bearings?

The pillow block bearings have zerks. I can't see where the oiler goes in the picture, but I would guess it is to the blade. Look at the size of the reservoir.

The line goes into two fittings that say sealmaster. I got a cutting blade for it but the one that was on it when I took the picture says circular tool company h.s.s. 10x.045 220 teeth.

I found Portasaw with a circle R, registered trademark symbol, on a currently made Husqvarna tile saw. I do not know what the OP's saw was made for but at least we know who owns or licenses the name. Calling them might be useful.

I worked in an aluminum window factory in the mid 1960's and ALL our aluminum extrusions were cut on radial arm saws specially slowed down and fitted with carbide blades.

I've got a buddy that works at a commercial aluminum widow/door mfg. company. they cut aluminum extrusions all day long...I sent him a link to the thread and asked him if he knew anything about it or if it looked familiar...will post if I get a reply.

edit: shop guy said it's just a dedicated metal saw, steel or alum. depending on what blade you put on it. lots of cooling options, cutting oil or water based is available...

Thanks again for all of the help. Mainly concerned about what oil tip put in it.

I googled 'Sealmaster' and they are a bearing manufacturer, so I assume it's a bearing lubricator. I can't think of any cutting application that would use oil on the blade. My cold saw uses coolant which has the consistency of water. I would think that using oil for cutting would make a major mess.

Husqvarna and Target both sell "PortaSaws" for tile and masonry work.
