Help with Atkins saw.

My neighbor willed me a Atkins articulated, vertical band saw, that will cut
a 10" beam at any length. It looks like a regular vertical bandsaw, but it pulls out like a portaband to cross cut anything 10" deep.

I now have a plasma cutter and have no desire to own it. It is three
phase, I'm not. Not something I need.

Is it worth anything, will a trade school want it?

He was a salesman in the industry and was quite proud of it.

It's about 7 feet tall, and uses a 1 1/4 or so thick blade. I can't remember exactly how, but the thing swivels on a vertical axis and keeps the blade straight while doing so. Serious weight involved, but I hate to think that they are going to haul it off for scrap. He was a smart man that lived 89 years and considered it a true gift. He has many sharpening machines that index off patterns to sharpen circular blades. A liquid cooled dish grinder, and other stuff. Headed for the dump.

Will get over there to photo so we can get it in the right hands to keep working, instead of dying off. Heck, we might need it as a pattern some day.

Gonna happen to us all one day. All these tools and machines we're so proud are going to be scrapped.

Shame to scrap operating machines. If those were pulled out so a decent photograph could be taken for craigslist, most likely someone would pay something more than scrap price.
