Help with atlas drill press

Hi, I recently acquired an old atlas drill press that I would like to get running to replace my current bench top drill press. I’ve found a lot of useful information through this forum over the years and was hoping that there is someone here knowledgeable on old atlas drill presses.

So basically I’m having a hard time finding anything regarding what model this could be. Someone had stripped it down at some point and I’m guessing lost a bunch of the parts. The table is marked dp204 but that seems to be specific to the table. From looking around the internet it looks like a floor model that was cut down but I’m not sure. I can’t find another press that has a base like this one without the slots cut into it. The head seems similar to a model 64 I think. It’s not really that important what model it is but it might help to narrow down or source parts that would fit

The main thing I can’t figure out is the quill/chuck. At the end of the quill there are 3 set screw dimples equally spaced around the shaft that I do not know whether or not they are supposed to be there. Then on the intermediate piece there is a set screw and the piece is labeled jacobs mfg. the piece is straight female on the quill side and tapered male on the chuck side. the chuck is a jacobs 33 but it also has “ cap 5/84-1/2”.

I am thinking the intermediate piece is not correct because I have only seen atlas drill presses with a knurled ring above the chuck or a skinny shaft that is popped out with a wedge. My quill doesn’t have a slot in it for a wedge so would I be correct in thinking I need the knurled ring set up for my drill press? If so, what would I need to know or measure to get the correct parts?

Any and all help or info would be appreciated. I tried to be as descriptive as I could, I will post pictures as soon as I can

Thanks, I looked through all the different pictures but I still couldn’t pinpoint mine. The head casting is similar to the craftsman in that the sides are flat. But the front of the head on mine has an atlas tag riveted on and the raise and lower handle is the same as the 60/70 series atlas. Once I can show pictures it will be easier

On the plus side all seem to have a knurled collar above the chuck

Sorry just trying to get to 5 posts

I’m sure this is annoying

What's annoying is when people can't follow the rules and try to circumvent them. Please follow the forum rules, they were put in place for a reason.

I don't find it annoying. You are trying to post pictures and have to jump through a few hoops first and get to five posts.

Where do you stand on the Mary Ann/ Ginger controversy?.

This is a huge forum... takes just a few minutes to find five topics worth contributing to.
