Hi, a friend of mine has a Bend Pak 10,000 pound 2 post lift, model number AB-1524

Its about 7 years old and has been trouble free untill now...problem is is that its stuck in the up position and wont lower.

(there is no car on it currently)

Didn't think to ask why he had it up without anything on it while I was there last night, I did notice he just painted around the bases and cleaned it some down there so thats probably why I'm guessing.

It seems as if the cylinder on the pump side is causing the problem... the other side starts to lower and you can hear the pump side cyinder start binding up and then just stop (only moves about 3/4's of an inch)

He said he checked the cables/lock adjustment and thats not whats holding it...

Anybody got any advice I can pass along to him to try and get it working again?

Thanks, Gabriel

:beer:and have a great Labor day!

Just guessing, maybe something fell behind carriage and is getting held up at safety locks?

Or even as simple as the lock system being out of adjustment...

BTW, one reason to raise an empty lift is to keep the arms off the floor giving better working space. I've done this a few times. Just be careful not to whack your head on the arms up in the air!

Is it possible that the ram has collected dust or built up a god amount of debri that it wont go back into the cycl. my 4 post had alot of bondo sanding dust on it was making a ton of noise going down and real slow until i raised it all the way up and cleaned the cycl works like new again.

Thanks for the replies, would there be any sort of valve or something keeping the cylinder from draining its fluid when lowering? When pulling down on it seems to be fighting the fluid pressure (will go down a slight amount while we were both pulling on it)

Not an immediate dead lockup...sort of gradually.

If not I'll be sure to pass the above advice along to him, thanks!
