help with billings ratchet

So I got this ratchet from a sale and I was trying to take it apart for cleaning and greasing. The circlip was bent a little and it broke coming off. So I need a new one of those. Also the plate that it was holding wont come off either. Plus the screws in the head are stripped. What should I do? I really like the feel of this ratchet and I'd like to use it someday

You can get new C-clips at a hardware store.

What thread are the screws? Are the screws stripped or the ratchet? Chase the ratchet body and get new screws. If not, can you tap it larger?

I think he means the Philips cross is stripped.

get the ratchet head on something solid (maybe drill a hole on a 2X4 and lay it all flat on a good bench) and set the driver in the holes (clean them out first) and rap on the driver handle downwards as you try to loosen.

Yes the phillips cross is stripped. I sprayed the head with on blaster and when trying to back the screws they stop on the back side. Almost like they are mushroomed out. I don't have a bench yet because I live in an apartment so im basically limited on what I can do

You might be able to sacrifice a torx bit to get that Phillips screw out. Its not the right way,use, etc. But it might work. I have done that in a jam. DO NOT recommend doing that on a regular basis though.

Use a small screw extractor. You can also grind down a dremel cutting disk until it has a very small diameter and put a notch in the head of the screw enough to facilitate using a standard blade driver to turn it out.

Okay guys thanks for the good ideas. I will try them when i get off work. As far as the selector not popping off, is it supposed to be like that? Does anyone have experience with these?

Do what Outlaw said on the 2x4 and use a hand impact with a #3 bit. (#2 if it feels good.)

Or use one of the, what are they called??? ... Old Man Knocker. something like that..
