Help With Buying Vintage Vise

In the market for a reasonably priced ($200 or less) high quality vintage vise. I thought I would be able to find one locally, but I still haven't found anything other than newer vises of questionable quality.

I need a swivel base.

Max weight is around 100 lbs, I guess -- it has to be shipped through U.S. Postal Service which has max of 70 lbs, but figure it can be disassembled to ship in two separate boxes.

Not really interested in the lightweight vises; want something stout.

Want with 4" jaws minimum.

Prefer a recognized brand name. Probably something I will use for now and restore when I have time.

Vise will be used for general garage/fabrication work.

Looking for something that is ready to use. Does not have to be restored, but needs to be ready to work.

Thanks!

Scott

BP (Scott): since you are in Italy you might look for the Italian version of the Bison FPU vise that has the moving static jaw. there are also Italian versions of the Wilton bullet if i recall correctly.

since you are in the service i'm guessing you can get things shipped from the US fairly reasonable to Italy as opposed to most of us that would have to pay a fortune. i'm sure i've got some decent old US made vises that i can sell you for under $250 if you pay the shipping. if you might want a few pictures can you PM me your email because not sure i still have it with as many times as my laptop has crashed?

here's the FPU vise that Italy makes their version of.

I have had zero luck finding vintage vises. I do regular internet searches, have been to a few markets, asked lots of folks, have seen plenty of used tools and some new/modern vises, but vintage vises (and anvils, too) have eluded me.

Getting stuff shipped here is easy - just ship via US Postal Service. We have a U.S. zip code (east coast) and that's all we have to pay for. Once to the east coast, the military picks it up and takes it from there. Only problem is shipping oversize/overweight stuff -- limited by USPS max size and weight (70 lbs/package).

I'll send you a pm with my address.

Thanks

Scott

If you actually plan on using this thing, do yourself a favor and hammer out a list of requirements you NEED so it is a one and done type deal. IE, I would not get one that has complex to remove and fabricate jaws. Something that operates with and without the swivel base attached, consider jaw surface area, depth, etc.

That is a beautiful vice, what is it worth? Id be interested if OP is not. I would not do a single thing to it as I think its colors are priceless. ( Too me :) )
