Hi everyone,
I bought a home a couple of months ago and now I'm planning to finish my 2-car garage, around 500sq.ft. The idea is pretty much common - to go for EpoxyShield so some preparation is required in advance. The floor is really bad, uneven, heavily worn out, has many pits, some of them are 1/2" deep, and many spots with a very rough surface, mostly painted. I patched most of the pits with epoxy patch & repair but still not sure what to do with the rest of the rough spots.
The concrete is very old, doesn't seem to be very strong. I'm currently looking for a proper grinder and diamond brush to make the surface smooth and even.
Just wondering if that is really feasible with reasonable amount of money and time DIY? That's my first experience with concrete floors so I could definitely use some advice.
I know other options beside grinding, like using self-leveling resurfacers (may be epoxy), but that would be the worst case scenario because of my limited budget. let's say, going over $400 is a bit too much for all the rest of work and tools. I already have two 2.5 epoxyshield kits, brooms, degreaser, roller, some patch&repair kits left so that budget is for the prep only.
I'm thinking about renting Husqvarna PG 280 plus an aggressive 30 grit disc, would that work? I don't mind ending up with a little bit uneven floor as long as it has smooth surface good enough for epoxyshield.
