Hi! We're having some issues with a fluorescent circline ceiling light. It stopped working some time ago, and I removed the bulb (see image below) because I thought it needed replaced (see image below of the original fluorescent bulb- GE FC8 T9/KB 22W China J4S.

I purchased the below pictured product (fluorescent bulb sunlite FC8T9/CW 22W).

Replacing the bulb, however, has not fixed my issue. The light will still not turn on. We have reset the breaker, but this did not resolve the problem. Before I contact an electrician, I'm hoping to see if there are any other ideas for what the issue could be. Could the fluorescent bulb I purchased not be compatible? Or is this issue likely not the bulb? Below are images of the non-working light with the new bulb installed. Thanks for any insight

First you need to confirm you have power to the fixture. Use a meter or a non-contact voltage detector for this. Assuming voltage is there and new bulb is in place, most likely the ballast has failed, the box in your unit marked TLE 22. May be hard to find and will be around $30.

Next alternative is to return the Fluorescent tube you purchased and get an LED equivalent. With this option you can eliminate the failed ballast but will require some rewiring to the socket. Cost around $25.

Lastly, these LED fixtures have become so cheap that you can probably replace the entire fixture with a new LED fixture for around $40, and just replace the entire fixture.

I think paying an electrician to work on that light fixture would be a waste of money. Likely charges $200 to show up unlikely to have a ballast on the truck. The ballast would be required assuming the new lamp you tried is good. Now you are in for a $40 ballast + $300 for labor.

If you are uncomfortable replacing the fixture then go to the store pick out a new LED fixture you like for that spot and have a handyman install it all for about $150 total.

Welcome to the Garage Journal!
Hope you didn't come here just for this light problem...
I agree, the problem is most easily fixed by replacing the whole fixture. The old lamp may be bad, the new lamp is probably good. The ballast may be bad but, being Chinesium product, probably only available as a component of whole unit, not sold separately. Just my guess. You will probably get a variety of opinions which will circle the drain of one common thought. That's probably where you'll find the best advice.

Should be an easy DIY issue.
