Help with compressor/brad nailer?

I was hoping you guys could help me figure this out. I got a California Air Tools 5510 SE and a Hitachi NT50AE2 Brad Nailer.

The instructions on the brad nailer say that I need a Filter/Regulator/Lubricator. My compressor, like all to my knowledge, came with a regulator. Can I not just get a filter and install it after the compressors regulator and lubricate the nailer manually with oil before using?

Or, do I need a Filter/Regulator/Lubricator(in that order) combo. So far, I have really only seen one of these combos that was affordable. It is a $50.00 Klutch unit from Northern Tool. So, if this is a necessity, I would appreciate anyone's input on a more affordable/dependable unit.

Thanks for any help.

I have porter cable air nailers and always just oiled them before use. I now use battery powered nailers almost exclusively.

I've had a Paslode brad nailer and just oil it when I remember. It's going on 10 years old and I just used it for 200 brads the other day.

Thanks for the help. Do either one of you use a filter? I am thinking that a filter may be helpful at keeping moisture out of the brad gun.

You don't need a filter, either. In 2 decades I've worked with nail guns, I've never seen a filter used. Oil the tool at the inlet daily and drain the compressor tank. the instructions say you should wear gloves, eye and hearing protection too. They are just covering their but if something happens, so they aren't liable for repairs.

No filter. And I rarely oil my Brad nailer as it can leave stains on trim boards. When I do oil it I shoot it into a scrap piece till it shoots clean.
If your compressors is running so much when Brad nailing that it condensates then you are one fast sucker lol

Thank You Much Folks! Just wanted to make sure. I have worked around many carpenters and never noticed them using any of that either. But, never really paid much attention either.

Haha!

I have the NT50AE2 and just ordered the CAT 4610AC which should be here tomorrow.

The won't be a filter involved here, just a few drops of oil before I use it.

Since a brad nailer is a finish gun and i assume you dont want oil all over a painted or going to paint surface i would be real light with the oil. I also wouldnt oil it every time.

I have this same nail gun and don't have a filter or oiler on either of my compressors. I've had it for a couple of years and have shot about a box and half of brads through it so far. Still works like new.
