Well my 36k mr cool is excellent but this dallas texas heat is just savage. I need more insulation. Anyone doing a metal garage in texas and you want to make a man cave out of it you MUST add at LEAST r30 on roof and r17 on walls.

Interesting. If you read my post #35, I've since temporarily installed a 22,000 BTU window AC, and has kept my large volume of space cooled at 75F even in near triple digits a few weeks ago. Total space is actually 22x66x17 high. I've got 1 ceiling fan with a 5' downrod to help with circulation.

I installed the wall insulation first and didn't notice a huge difference. However, the ceiling R38 made a huge difference. I needed 2x10 ceiling joists, but used 2x12s for additional insulation space, and it paid out well with the R38. This is all fiberglass insulation.

If you had the money, I would definitely add at least something like an R19 layer to the R10 already installed to the lid.

I’m a cheap bast***, I would order greenhouse shadecloth from Farmtek and cover the whole building. If you prevent the heat gain, you won’t have to deal with it. I install and remove shadecloth every spring and fall here on a commercial greenhouse, only because it snows. Otherwise it could be left in place.

This is pretty much how it works in Texas LOL. Until you seal up the ceiling and insulate, it'll radiate heat like the door of a blast furnace. With reflective decking, under deck temps run 120F. The house uses regular OSB and under deck can be 130~150F easy. Ceiling material - OSB, drywall, sheet metal - has no R value, as you'd expect.
