Hi All,

I need some help- a little background: I bought this Cummins 7x12 mini lathe from a local tool sale. Didnt have time to set it up so it sat in the box in my shop for about a year... So finally I get it set up and start playing with it and am already having issues... I think.

The lathe seems to run fine in forward, but if I stop it, switch to reverse and crank the speed all the way up (I dont run it like that, only to test) it seems to only run at about half speed. Is that normal? I thought it should run the same top speed in both directions.

If its wrong... Anyone have an idea of the cause? Im not sure if it was like that out of the box or if it started happening when I used it. but I did have one time when I was running it in reverse (And cutting) that it tripped the shutdown and wouldnt reset for a few minutes. I noticed the problem after this so I can only assume something blew out.

And on top of it I found one of the plastic freakin gears is already wearing (Melting) whereit rides on the bolt.

I have never used a lathe before but im sure I wasnt doign it so wrong that all this should be going wrong witht he damn thing. And since i didnt set it up for so long, my warranty is nada.

HELP!
