I had a couple jobs where I was needing to shoot some grades, so I figured I'd invest in a rotary laser. I bought a older DW073 laser that is like new. It was missing the detector, but everything else was in the box. Not thinking about detector compatibility, I found a like new DE089 detector on eBay for pretty cheap. So my first project was outdoors. The detector was a bit inconsistent at a maximum range of 35', and improved at closer ranges. Then my second job was inside my shop out of direct light and at 40' it would not pick up at all. So I moved it closer to the laser and the best I could get was at approx 10'. This is when I learned that the detector is compatible with DW088, 089, "and other models" according to the book. Not much help. I went to the Internet, which was not much help either. I don't know anyone with another laser for me to test the components, so that's a no go. How do I figure out if it's the laser or detector? All batteries are fresh, and the laser is plenty bright.
