Help With Door Opener?

I've got a Craftsman door opener (ceiling mounted) that's been acting up lately, and I really don't know where to start with it.

The door opens fine, but keeps stopping and reversing on the way down. It seems to do this more often when it is hot outside. Holding the button down will force it to close, but this doesn't work well with the remote and is a giant pain in the ****.

Does anybody have any ideas for me, or any links to online resources?

Thanks!

Ryan

Check the sensors at the base of the garage door for alignment/functioning properly and the wiring for them, could be a bad sensor or loose wiring. I'm assuming that the light blinks when it is reversing...

Light blinks? (Count them...)

Most likely binding and the force adjustment is telling it there is a blockage and to re-open.

I just went through the same issue with a Genie opener that was about 13 years old that was lifting an extremely heavy one piece kick-out 16' wide door. Some days it worked fine and others not so good. The door rolled free when disconnected from the opener. The sensors were fine. I think the PC board may have had a crack or break in it and was causing an intermittant problem. It seemed worse on real hot days or real cold days. I replaced the opener with a 3/4 hp chain drive Chamberlain for $169.00 at Lowes and all is well now.

1. Disconnect the door from the opener and see that it operates as expected manually.
2. Check the alignment of the beams across the floor and CLEAN THE LENSES!!
3. NOW, if its still and issue, start diagnosing the opener itself.

My Chamberlin brand door opener started doing this. It should flash a diagnostic code if something is wrong. My circuit board was faulty.

On my Genie garage door opener I had to adjust the sensitivity to auto reverse if it feels an obstruction. There were two mini knobs to turn. According to their website you put a two by four under the door and close it and if it reverses it is safe.

Wow, thanks for all the great responses. The light does flash. Depending on how you count the flashes, it is either 9 or 10 times.

Is there a procedure for adjusting the door opener if it is just an adjustment?
