Help with Fleet Oil Changes

Two containers per vehicle … one gallon on one half gallon … 6 qts.

I see what you did there...I guess I want to keep the container count down and ideally wanted a perfect 6 quart container but it doesn't look like its going to happen. Sometimes I service quite a bit of vehicles in one day so I think my best bet is just get the smallest size race fuel jug I can find that will fit 6 quarts....Its one container per, they have a solid sealing lid, durable, large opening; only downside is the smallest was I think 2.5 gallon size so a bit big.

He is working for fleets, you do not get to pick the schedule they do, you do what they ask and get paid to do so.
I worked fleet work for over 30 years they each have their own ideas.
Many pick a service interval not based on oil change science but knowing their drivers do not check anything and want it looked at on a regular basis.

correct...they wanted it done by mileage but most average out around that 2 month range so we stuck to that. Engines start falling apart if they go the full 10k or whatever ppl do nowadays. The vehicles run everyday all across the state loaded down to almost max capacity and drivers beat on them pretty good and as stated they do not look them over one bit....turn up the stereo and go it seems like.

interestingly enough they were quite a bit more expensive than buying 5 quarts jugs or single quarts.

I once had to replace a connecting rod and piston in a 5-liter Ford pickup because a quick lube shop pumped 5 quarts of oil into the engine so fast that it flooded the hose from the valve cover to the intake air tube and sucked oil into the intake of the engine and hydro locked the engine and bent a connecting rod.

Surprised that’s all it did.

Bulk is all over the map right now because of supply chain issues, even if you have somewhere else to store the bulk and refill smaller tanks on the truck the ability to pump it out using a preset dispenser nozzle allows you to do other service aspects while the oil is installed. Time saving devices cost money the key is to ballance what saves you time and money vs what costs you money and only saves a fraction of time.
For example if you are jacking it up to pull wheels and check brakes pulling the drain plug may not be that costly but being able to **** it out and not have to deal with a drain pan and emptying it in the truck may be worth while if you do a lot 3.6l rams with the filter on top.

Quite a bit of the 3.6 for sure. I currently drain into the large vp racing containers cause everything else leaked. but yes I understand what your saying.

The very first fleet oil change I did for that company I got a van that had at least double the capacity of oil in it AND the old filter

most are 6 qt. In an effort to try and reduce extra steps and extra trash I wanted to keep having that extra quart out of the picture....but yes I will do it somethimes like you guys mentioned 5+1 but I still have mostly single quarts so until then I have to go the single quart route. UNLESS I can find a sealable 6 quart jug that I can't seem to find; the idea is I just fill up 6 quart jugs and have them ready to take w me on the day of. I might have to settle for a 2.5 gallon racefuel container like what Sunoco sells.

I haven't seen any 6qt containers but all my oil I buy is Motorcraft. I'm buying a 5 qt jug plus 2 singles.


FYI, I bought my 2.5 gallon jugs from Summit.

Does the time saved doing the oil change worth the time spent decanting quarts and mixed sizes into a single container?
Have you had these in hand? None of the online listings say what material the lid is, I assume rubber, but they all mention transporting bulk oil so I assume it seals;

Those Lisle lids will keep dust out but forget trying to transport one with more then a couple qts in it, also the spout does not bent making it useless to pour oil in newer cars

You are doing 90 quarts (25 gallons total) in a shot?

This sure seems like bulk territory to me....

At minimum I'd be buying 15 5qt containers, plus 3 additional or 15 individual quarts if you really can't measure.

That's 9 minutes to pour 90 quarts of oil, enough for 15 vehicles at 6 quarts each.

Lisle makes an 8 quart container that is marked at each quart level. Their are 1.5 gallon gas cans that may work as well

Costco Synthetic oil comes in 6qt jugs.

I keep a bunch of Lisle jugs on hand, each with different fluid, 15-40W, 0-20W, Dex-Cool, Pink and Green coolant, washer fluid, transfer fluid, etc.

the problem with those containers is that they dont have a secure seal up top...so if one falls over its a huge mess. I think the ease of just having a single container for each vehicle would just make it so much less of a hassle...yeah I will spend time at home setting it up beforehand but it will be a lot cleaner, less bulky, easier the day of.

not all the time at times I will just do half and the other half another day depending on circumstance. Most of the time Ill have other customers waiting on me also so just trying to make it less of a hassle, less trash, less spills...etc. Bulk is more expensive for whatever reason and can't/dont want to lug around bulk.

It looks like ill be going with the small 2.5 gall race fuel containers....no 6 quart containers that I could find that will meet the requirements I wanted. Thank you all for the help tho.

For your waste oil I would use a 5-gallon pail with a lid, I would try to find one with a pour spout and a cap. You might also be able to buy your oil cheaper in the 5-gallon pail, but you would have to find a supplier for that. Just so you know Autozone will except your waste oil at their stores for free.

Here is a 6 quart / 1.5 gallon container that probably meets your needs perfectly. A little expensive, but maybe that's ok. You want HDPE because it will contain oil without breaking down, and it doesn't get brittle at lower temperatures.

I was only half kidding, if you unscrew the cap and pour/squeeze it into the funnel it takes less than 10 seconds per quart.
