Recently we had our thermosta lcd go out so I purchased one and installed it but it blew the furnace board fuse I made the mistake of putting the common on the b terminal the new thermostat is powered by batteries. I disconnected the thermostat and went to the furnace to change the fuse then I pissed the switch and the board started buzzing and started smoking. I'm at a loose here everything was fine before untill the old thermostat went out the only thing that really went out on the thermostat was the LCD. Any help is appreciated guys. God bless.

You let the smoke out. New board and make sure your new stat is compatible with the unit when correctly wired.

What is the resistance from the windings to ground?
Do you mean the reading if I touch one of the terminals and then the housing? If so I get OL on my fluke. I tried housing and each of the terminals they all come back OL. Hopefully I'm doing it right.

more than likely you destroyed the board..

It's important to understand your system and get the correct thermostat ...many today are proprietary .. and to get full use of the equipment have to be exact.

Make sure to get the correct thermostat -- try wiring it up correctly. Hope for the best ...

Sometimes the boards are available used on e-bay

Was the transformer hot?
Did you check voltage to and from transformer?
I'll have to bench test the transformer to make sure it's still good. I took it off to check it .

The original thermostat didn't have batteries. The new thermostat has batteries. How would I be certain if the new thermostat is compatible with my unit?
