Hey folks, I need some help with finding a socket that fits a 3/4" fastener in a 1/4" drive size. Did some basic googling, and what I am coming up with is that most manufacturers seem to stop at 9/16". I'm sure somebody makes one, and this is garage journal, so I'm quite sure somebody knows where to look for something like that!

Long story short, my sister wants a breaker bar for Christmas, and also mentioned the only socket she has that fits a 3/4" fastener is an 8 point... :wtf:

So I ordered her a 5-1/2" long 1/4" drive breaker bar, and would like a 3/4" socket to go on that.

Yes I also ordered a proper 1/2" drive 24" long breaker bar as well, but she will get that one a bit later on. :bounce:

Since it's a gag gift, just get a typical chinesium inexpensive 3/4" socket in 3/8" drive. Drill out the 3/8" drive to an appropriate size, and epoxy in a cut off 1/4" drive socket drive end. I'd bet It's be almost undetectable if done neatly.

Agree with this. Don't overthink it. And don't overdo it.

Actually what I might do if nobody knows of a socket in that size, is to just get a 3/4" socket in 1/2" drive and a couple adapters to get it down to 1/4" that way it can be used for real.

Your gag gift may be lost on her. She may say thanks and put it in her trunk.

You don't know my sister... She actually knows how to use a wrench and isn't afraid of getting dirty in the process. She also doesn't have a trunk, she has a truck, a 1978 GMC that she just won't upgrade.

True farm girls are an entirely different breed of folks. Not to be confused with wannabe country girls that get down on a dance floor to what passes for country music these days.

I'd pick up a 3/4" impact socket, drill it through, press in an adapter like this (it's even on sale!) Then blast it and give it a quick coat of Krylon ultra flat black. What could be better than a 3/4" 1/4" drive impack socket!

Take a small 1/4 drive socket, grind it square and then friction-fit it into a 1/2” drive socket. Find a few old Chinesium sockets and you could make her a set from 5/8”-1”

Give it a rest guys.

Looks like there was some cleanup done in my thread! Thanks Eric, not entirely sure how it went off the rails, but seems to be rather common on the internet. Certainly appreciate you guys keeping it clean around here!

Just a breaker bar? Can I please marry your sister?

Well, that would be her choice, not mine to make. She has a mind of her own, and knows what she wants. However I would venture to guess based on your choice of towns to live she wouldn't give you the time of day. :lol_hitti

Wow, I am impressed that she wants a breaker bar. Sounds like an awesome young lady.

Reason is, on the farm she needs to adjust implements from time to time, and wants one long enough she can take the lug nuts loose on her truck if need be. She's strong, but wants the additional leverage of a proper breaker bar over a regular length ratchet. Adjusting hardware on farm equipment is tight, and corroded.

Maybe gave you guys the wrong impression, she's older than me by 2.5 years, and approaching 31. So has certainly had enough time to figure out how to use tools, and what is needed to make the job more efficient. No reason for her to call for me to come down to the field with my service truck if it is a simple fix and she has the tools there. She's never been one to ask for useless things as gifts.
