I need help wiring a thermostat. Installed Heat Kit for Goodman PCK-036, and the blower will not come on when heat strip is on. I wired Red to Red, Yellow to Yellow, Green to Green and White to White. There is a Brown wire in the outside unit but there are only 4 connections in the Thermostat. Do I need a different thermostat that will use the Brown wire? Thanks!

Any recommendations on what Thermostat to buy? The Goodman Unit is a packaged A/C Unit.

Ok lets start with what you have you said you installed a heat kit in the air handler which leads me to think you have a heat pump system if this is the case you will need a heat pump thermostat which will have more places for wires to hook up . A standard gas furnace system will have 4 wires red which is your 24volt hot white is your heat yellow is the AC and green is the fan or blower . A heat pump system has extra wires usually an orange which operates the reversing valve in the outside unit a blue which is the 24 volt negative and a black or brown which operates the emergency heat . Why dont we start with make and model numbers on your equipment so I can make sure you have a full heat pump system . You can get a thermostat at Lowes or Home Depot or Menards but if you have a heat pump system then you want a thermostat for a heat pump system with electric heat. I will try to get you a link from home depot but if you can get me the model numbers and make of your equipment.

If it helps here are the wires that are in the unit to connect to the thermosat wiring.
Red Green Yellow White and Brown; these are the only wires to connect to the thermostat. Thanks!

Ok I am pretty sure the brown wire is your 24 volt negative but let me double check with the distributor tomorrow just to make sure then I will be able to tell you how to wire it.
