Help with hooking up Sayler Bealle Compressor

I recently acquired a older VT-730-80 SB compressor, believe it is a 1970 by the tank stamp. It has some connections that I have not see before and am not sure how to hook this up for air. The right side with the red hose spigot is the service valve (4th pic). What is the item on the opposite side? It has a cap on it with wire lock that looks like it's been since factory. And what is the small lever below the placard/lock there? I am guessing that the lock cap comes off and I attach it to that metal pipe. Obviously I am trying to hook this up so any input is appreciated.

Agreed with the cobbler, don't touch the safety valve, or not yet anyways. Tie into the red handled gate valve with what looks to be a 3/4" or 1" female end.

I would order/make a rubber air line with NPT ends sized to fit that elbow, one with a swivel to go from the compressor to your wall/filter/regulator/air reel.

Once you get it all up and some pressure in it I would function the safety valve to ensure it can still open, as well as the safety valves on your compressor head and near the check valve going into the tank

Thanks for the reply. It is a 1” outlet, which brings me to another question.

How should I step down from the 1” outlet to a 1/2“ air hose? Should I get a 1” filter > 1” regulator then put an adapter on the outlet of the regulator? Or should the step down be before the filter and regulator? The most intensive task I’ll do will be some sand blasting.

Filter regulator setups with 1/2" and 3/4" inlets are common while 1" is somewhat less so. To keep your options open, I would get a 1" to 1/2" bushing and put it right in that elbow after the shut off. Then use a short length of 1/2" hose as described above to run to your filter/regulator.
