Help with Identification

Anyone know what this is? Looks cast iron with the markings M196 on one side and a 6 or a 9 on the other. Also there is a mark that looks like two capitol "Y"s tail to tail. About 7-1/4" long and the square is slightly larger than 3/4" x 3/4".

Ill go out on a limb and say its an old toolpost wrench, but square headed stuff was pretty common back in the day, so who knows....!

Looks like a crank handle to shake the coals out of an old woodburning cook stove. I'll send a pic of the one that is with the cook stove I just got later
