Hi all im hoping someone might be able to identify the model of my salamander heater. I know its a master brand but i don't know the btu's or anything else about it really other than its a multi fuel. I bought it off someone for 10.00 they apparently bypassed the photocell but i will correct it once i can determine the model. I have attached photos of it hopefully someone can identify it.

No idea on the specific model #. It appears older than mine, which is late 80s vintage. That said, it looks pretty similar inside, though yours is hard piped, where mine uses rubber fuel hoses for the air pump and fuel pickup.

I spent some time searching the web and eventually found both operator and service manuals for mine, which have helped immensely when I rebuilt it at its 30 year point, since the hoses had deteriorated with age. Parts have not been too hard to find for mine, and there appears to be a fair amount of interchangeability between brands.

I'm not on my computer, but I'll look tomorrow for some links, as Master was made by DESA, I think, and bought or bankrupted or something, but I do remember spending a little time searching through a bunch of different manuals to find mine. IIRC, there were a couple vendor websites that had good manual libraries. Also, a lot of good gouge on utube.

Ok thanks appreciate the helpful information
Based on the size, I would put it between 110,000 and 150,000 BTUs.
Thanks this should help somewhat reducing number of possible models.

^ It's also the term used for the heating devices used in commercial kitchens (and an amphibious animal.)

Various types of objects labeled as "salamanders" appear in old hardware catalogs which look nothing at all like the OP's device (or the one in your Wikipedia photo.)

Fair enough, but post number one should’ve clarified the reference

No... I'm still confused... the term "salamander" came up during a dinner conversation a couple weeks ago and I'm still puzzling over it. Not sure if the person was just misinformed, or if it was one of those "regional colloquialism" things.

Might be

Far back as I can remember, they were always referred to by that name. Yes I never really gave any thought as to why maybe that was a name of a company that made them at one time :dunno:

I never remember being referred to as a torpedo which really doesn’t make much more sense than a salamander since both are creatures of water

I have a Master 80K slamander/torpedo/Kerosene heater, but I didn't know about any photocell. Maybe temp sensor would be implied? Or I'm about to learn a thing.

The photocell is used for flame proving. They're open circuit if there's no flame, and low resistance in the prescence of bright light, if I remember right.

Probably a regional thing. Salamander or torpedo heater around this area.
