Help with insulation choice

I am planning on adding some insulation batts to my shop attic. I am unsure which to use. I am simply trying to ward off the summer sun somewhat and this winter will use plywood to line the "room". I think R30 is what I will use, but backed or no back?

Depending on your location, some people prefer to use no kraft paper and use plastic instead for a vapor barrier. Others, like myself, are happy using the kraft paper backed batts.

Use the thickest insulation you can as long as you leave air air gap for air movement/ventilation. I've said it many times but here it is again. Insulation is an investment.

I used kraft paper backed insulation when I built my first house about 40 years ago. Fast forward 30 years and I found that, in the atic, the paper had become extremely brittle and would tear or shatter with the slightest contact. I have used plastic since that time and would never use paper again. Also, as a vapour barrier, the plastic has much better sealing since the only seams will be at the top and bottom, around electrical openings and doors and windows, not the edge of every bat.

I personally like to cover the paper with plastic. The plastic works better as a vapor barrier and the paper helps to stop the insulation from settling down the wall

Welcome to GJ. You may not have reviewed enough posts / threads to know that LOCATION makes a big difference on what insulation to install.

Well gosh, it used to show my location. I am in Oklahoma. Visit HAMB and the barn regularly, the garage not so much. I do appreciate the responses.
