I'm dealing with this as well. While LEDs have great potential, as I've discovered, they sometimes don't last nearly as long as they should. I've seen bulbs and integrated (portable) lights fail within a year or two, not 10 or 20. This completely wrecks the ROI -- which the marketing claims is totally worth the extra $$$...
That makes me very leery of hardwiring any integrated lights into a wall or ceiling. I'm trying to limit my purchases to a traditional fixture, where the LED bulb (round or florescent style) can be changed out if it dies.
Alternately, if I did get an integrated LED, it would be something that could be hung from a hook, wire, chain, etc. Making it easy to replace. Just my $.02.
PS, I've had decent luck with strips so far. But I've only installed them in places where ripping a bad one out & replacing it would not ruin my weekend.
