Help with Milton Line Filter - Pictures attached

I bought a new Milton 1/2" combo set up of regulator and filter. I hooked it up to my compressor in the correct configuration - tank, filter, regulator.

All of the air coming from the tank is released from the valve on the filter. I thought that the valve was in the open, drain water position, but I checked it and it was in the closed position. I messed around with the valve by opening and closing but still the same result - all air from compressor blows out the filter drain valve regardless of whether the valve is in the open or closed position.

Am I not getting something here or is my filter defective.

Thanks for you help.

If it were mine, I would probably unscrew the filter canister

to find out why the valve is not functioning as it should.

I doubt if that would void the warrantee, since it is made to

be taken apart, as it is required for normal servicing.

OTOH, since it is yours, and apparently brandy new, never

been used, it is up to you if you just want to take it back

for another on a swap deal as a defective part.

Let us know what happened.

Good call, Uncle Bob. I unscrewed the bowl and it was a simple fix. The brass plunger that seats into the drain valve had come out. Simply put it back into place and screwed it back together. Works like a charm.
Thanks for the suggestion.

I have that same filter/regulator set up. Worked like a charm for a little over a year. Now it leaks. First was the the brass valve on the bottom, took it apart and reset it, but now it leaks up top.

Hopefully you have better luck with yours, as I am not over happy with it as it is in my 1 car garage only getting used 2-3 times a week. Warranty on them is pretty short if I recall correctly.

Where exactly is it leaking ? If it leaks past the O-ring where the

canister and body meet, try cleaning and lubing the O-ring with

silicone grease or plumbers' grease.

Wash out the canister and body with hot water. If it still leaks

when you reassemble, then try a new O-ring. Dirt and heat are

the usual culprits when things don't seal the way they should.

Heat hardens the seals, and dirt, well dirt just does what it

traditionally does best.
