So a guy at work asks me "hey I have this old jack in my garage and I don't want it, would you be interested?" Me being a lover of FREE stuff said hell yea. No clue what brand it is. Only thing I could find was on a plate on the top said "*blank* tools corporation, tallmadge ohio". It needs work as well as new spurs so any help identifying or info on how to rebuild or service this thing would be great. Thanks in advance

First thing I would do is clean it up. Then I'd check the jack's fluid level. I can't believe how many hydraulic tools are "broken" but simply low on fluid...

ok guys i got it all torn down and have the pump standing alone. i removed all of the screws and drained it out. there was a lot of what i think is water in the oil. it seems all of the seals are good because it holds the ram up under pressure so i dont know how it got in with the oil. so i have a couple problems at the moment. I cant get the main nut off the ram to check the cylinder can i use a little heat on it or is that a bad idea? problem 2...when drained it i wasnt using my head and i dropped 2 ball bearings, different sizes, out of the holes and what looks like a 1/4 hex bit and have no idea what holes they go in can anyone help with that? and so once i get it all back together, is there a process to filling it back up with hydraulic oil as in do i just put all the screws and plugs back in and fill it up through the resevoir? any suggestions on brand or paint for it yet?

Did you follow the tutorial that I linked in post number 3? If you put heat to the tank nut you will definitely destroy the oring inside it and probably the wiper if equipped. Water mixed with oil is fairly common on these jacks, especially if it's been in the elements. Always add oil via resevoir with jack in the rest position. As far as the pieces that fell out.... Sounds like the working valve.

any updated help?

Judging by the size of the hex I'd say the correct order would be small ball first then big ball then hex (weight). Again I'm on my phone at the hospital but it appears the hex diameter is bigger than the small ball diameter. The majority of the yasui designed jack don't use weights/springs in the working valve.

You should change the o-ring that is inside of the big nut. This o-ring is the one that seals the ram. A worn o-ring here will leak almost all the oil little by little. The big o-ring around the nut, the one that seals the oil tank, may be used again provided it is not to worn. Also, change the o-ring that seals the pump plunger or piston. A worn o-ring here will also leak a lot of oil little by little every time you stroke the handle. There is also an o-ring inside the nut where the release gear is mounted. If your release nut assembly has a release gear held in position by a nut, you can take it apart and change the o-ring. If the release gear is welded you may have to get a new release assembly, or take apart that one by grinding the weld and reweld the release gear after replacing the o-ring, just be carefull not to overheat the part or the o-ring will be damaged. So you will need to cool the release assembly right away after welding. Otherwise a release assebmbly, with removable gear, from another jack may fit yours as these assemblies more often than not are of the same size.

Also, as general info, some jacks use weights or spacers with the steel balls, other use very light springs and some just use the balls without weights or springs.
