got a new compressor Industrial Air model IV5076055 60 gal 5 hp and it won't get to 175 psi. Shuts off at 160psi and leaks down to150psi in an hour. Soap it down twice and can't find a leak and no air coming from the unloader valve. Any suggestions?

Have you adjusted the pressure switch (do this with power off). Its a nut on a long spring if you have a square D style p.s. Tighten (compress spring) usually gets more psi.

In my shop I would adjust it down to 120/130 psi.

Something's leaking inside the pump. Might be time for a call to the mfg or reseller.

Is it leaking or cooling off. The temperature will have a little effect on the pressure. If it’s holding at 150 and not dropping lower then it’s probably not a leak.

I like it running close or at design pressure, it stores more energy and makes for a system for air tools. Mine is set 160, I have a lot of storage and its not a big deal, I just havnt fussed with it. If it was solo on its own tank would be at the top. Reason a guy got a decent compressor was due to its design and ability to pump hi pressure, if it wasw going to run to 120 could have done it for 400$.

This compressor is on my short list. The Air Compressors Direct website has a review with a situation very similar to yours.

I had a compressor with a leaking check valve. After it would shut off, it would bleed air back through the compressor.

I'd suspect maybe the tank check valve isn't holding properly. Once the air is compressed and pushed into the tank, the check valve keeps the air in the tank and stops it from coming back against the compressor. When the pressure switch shuts the motor off, an unloader valve opens and drains the pressure off of the discharge line and cylinder head so the compressor can restart without being under load.

If the check valve doesn't hold properly the air can keep bleeding back to the compressor cylinder and then leaking out of the unloader valve. The check valve is located at the tank, right where the compressor discharge line enters the tank. It might be partly working once pressure bleeds down a little, but not holding at full pressure.

This compressor is two stage, these are typically set to cycle between 150-175 psi. You use a regulator to lower the tank pressure down to your desired line pressure. This ensures you always have a steady, constant pressure in your shop lines and will give you more even tool performance. Setting the pressure lower defeats the purpose of buying the larger compressor. An air tank will store about 50% more cubic feet of compressed air at 175 psi than it does at 125 psi.

I just ordered one of these private label compressors and will receive in 2 weeks. Hoping to hear updates/solution in case I have same run of mfg issues...

yep, that would be me. don't do it. Mat industries are very hard to work with. Mine arrived with no oil and they told me to use oil I got with the maintenance kit.I'm still waiting for them to send me the right oil. Don't be fooled by warranty it's not a full warranty it covers a pump motor is only 90 days. waiting for a repair guy now. I refuse to work on something brand new

anything made by Mat Industries I would keep away from. They don't back up warranty

I still have a chance to cancel... anyone else have experience with MAT compressors or this one in general? Filling oil is inconvenient but ultimately seems small if that is the only "defect". I'll do search as well.

Starts dropping when it shuts off

it's holding at 150 overnight

if it bothers you that much.... I have had good luck with taking out the check valve and run it in the ultrasonic cleaner for few cycles... including spraying some dry lubes after it have been dried...

might be some thicker oil/dried grease etc that is preventing it to seat immediately...

my craftsman 33 gallon... and the 15 gallon had the same problem...
