Help with old air compressor.

I have an older 2hp air compressor that I am trying to get up and running.
There was some damage when moving it from my parents house to mine. Most of it I have figured out except for one fitting on the compressor. I have a few pictures hopefully someone can identify it. I'm thinking it was a plug the got broke off.
First pic up close. The fitting is hollow

The secound pictures is for reference to where it is. It's the one straight up from the direction of rotation sticker.

Probably the vent for the crankcase.
Easy way to determine that is hold your thumb over the opening and have somebody turn the machine over by hand a couple revolutions. If it's the vent you'll feel pulsation at the fitting.

It looks like a crankcase vent, which is sometimes plumbed up to the intake.

That looks like a two stage pump, is it? Also, that motor is HUGE! Are you sure about the HP rating?
If it was mine, I'd like to see the inside of the tank and I'd like to rig up a belt guard.

Could you post pics of the various data plates on the motor, tank and pump?

Like the previous replies, I likewise would guess crankcase breather vent. Another way to check would be to open the crankcase oil fill hole and then blow air into the fitting and see if the air comes out the oil fill.
